- Karen Brown's Recommendation:
The Steamboat Inn is an exceptional little hotel with an idyllic location right on the water with glorious views of the river. The entry, at the back, is small but handsome in a nautical theme of teaks, with an oar taking up the length of a side brochure display and a gorgeous, large stained glass of a colorful steamboat hanging above the reception desk. The five first-floor bedrooms, (all but one with river views, four with kitchenettes), have spacious bathrooms and double Jacuzzi tubs. Upstairs, six slightly smaller guestrooms enjoy wood-burning fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs. All the rooms are sentimentally named for famous Mystic ships from the schooner days. We were able to see two bedrooms, both on the second floor: Mystic, which is very handsome with a mahogany four-poster queen bed, fabrics in blue, off white and red with a comfortable sitting area facing the fireplace. The Marie Gilbert is a very pretty room in rich blues and creams with a white-painted four-poster bed angled to maximize the view out of one long wall of windows, sofa, light-pine table, and lovely fireplace. Also on the second floor is an attractive common room where guests can help themselves to tea and coffee and where they enjoy evening sherry. A full breakfast is served each morning.
