- Karen Brown's Recommendation:
The stately 1838 Greek Revival family home of whaling-ship captain Uriah Russell has been transformed into a very elegant inn in the town of Nantucket on the very charming island of Nantucket. Common rooms and bedrooms are furnished with a mix of authentic and reproduction antiques that give the inn a great deal of charm and warmth. Bedrooms have handmade four-poster beds with canopies, goose-down comforters with flower-print covers, Oriental carpets, and marble bathrooms. Each of the very attractively and elegantly furnished rooms has a private bath, air conditioning, TV, and telephone with data port. I particularly loved room 7 at the back of the building, which overlooks the garden. Breakfast, consisting of freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, and homemade baked goods, is served in the dining room or on that lovely garden terrace where you can enjoy the bubbling fountain. I loved the commercial espresso machine from which you can choose a cappuccino, café latte, or an espresso. One of the many wonderful things about Nantucket is that it is an easy walk from the ferry docks to almost everything there is to do and every place there is to stay.
