- Karen Brown's Recommendation:
The Manoir de Kergrec’h, located on the northern coast of Brittany, is a superb 17th-century manor, impressively large, yet tremendously inviting—especially in early summer when a profusion of old-fashioned pink roses lace and soften the stern gray-stone exterior. This is truly a gorgeous home filled with fine antique furniture and with an added attribute of having a splendid setting in an enormous park that stretches to the sea, an absolute paradise for walking. When you enter into the large front hallway, to the right is a formal, beautiful living room. To the left is a handsome dining room with beautiful parquet floors in a herringbone pattern and a massive fireplace, which soars almost to the ceiling. A spiral stone staircase, worn with the footsteps of time, winds up through the tower to the bedrooms, which are most attractively appointed with color-coordinated fabrics and gorgeous antique furniture. All the bedrooms are beautifully decorated in an individual style. I loved them all, but I think my particular favorite is room 5, a lovely corner room decorated in tones of blue and cream and with windows on two sides looking out to the enchanting grounds. All of the bedrooms have exceptionally large, modern bathrooms.
