- Karen Brown's Recommendation:
The Maison Dominxenea is very special. Located about a kilometer from the center of Sare, the bed and breakfast is a picture-perfect, 16th-century cottage with cute red picket fence in front and red shutters accenting a white façade. Your enter into a cozy parlor dominated by a large fireplace. Just beyond is a second lounge that looks out onto a back garden with a lush lawn stretching back to 300 rose bushes. In the garden is a flagstone terrace, a favorite spot for guests to lounge and enjoy the idyllic scene. A handsome, centuries-old, spiral wooden staircase leads from the front parlor up to the three bedrooms, each of which is individually decorated with great taste and abounds with antiques. Fresh bouquets of flowers lend the final note of perfection. Two of the guestrooms (which are slightly more expensive) are extremely spacious. In the morning freshly baked croissants, rolls, and homemade jams are left in the pantry so guests can enjoy breakfast at their leisure. For dinner, stroll to the family’s other property, the Hôtel Arraya, where the meals are absolutely fantastic. When making reservations, since the telephone and fax numbers are the same as at the Hôtel Arraya, be sure to be specific as to where you want to stay.
