- Karen Brown's Recommendation:
The Inn at Stockbridge is an historic Berkshires bed & breakfast, built in 1906 and situated down a driveway that winds through the magnificent 12-acre estate. You arrive at a columned porch and on the other side of the front door is a very large, welcoming hall flanked by the dining room on one side and the gracious living room on the other. The living room, where wine is served in the afternoon, is comfortably furnished and reading by the fire here is a real pleasure. The inn’s guestrooms are located in the main house, the cottage house, and the barn. The main house guestrooms are termed “traditional” and a personal favorite, Blagdon, which was the original master bedroom, is decorated in soft shades of yellow, has a spacious sitting area in front of the fireplace and a lovely four-poster canopy king bed. The cottage and barn house the luxury suites. Those located in the barn: Shakespeare, Wharton, Rockwell, and Shaker—all enjoy gas fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, and private decks, and each is decorated appropriately for its name. Whichever room you choose, you will enjoy modern conveniences and wonderful attention to detail. The inn prides itself on its five-star, home-cooked breakfasts, formal affairs by candlelight, and Len loves to share his breakfast recipes with guests. The inn is close to so many things to do that you’ll have trouble deciding between the antiquing, the music festivals, the Norman Rockwell Museum, and a variety of sports. Settle here during the romantic winter season and take advantage of their seasonal getaway packages.
