- Karen Brown's Recommendation:
A charming Austrian couple, Christopher and Heidi have realized their dream of running a small hotel in Tuscany with the acquisition of the Lupaia. Taking over from the previous owner, the property has benefited from their renovations and taste in decor. They have taken out the kitchenettes in favor of more spacious bathrooms for the two suites, and what were described as “bold” colors in the decor of the previous owner have given way to soft subtle colors and a richness of decor. The Lupaia sits on a vast property overlooking the ancient hilltown of Montepulciano. With nine rooms and two suites spread over five stone farmhouses and annex buildings, with beamed ceilings and brick or hardwood floors as a base, each guest room has been given its own distinct character. All guestrooms have splendid views of the Tuscan countryside, are accessed independently from the outside, and each benefit from the privacy of a terrace or garden. Features such as extra space, extraordinary views, loft beds, spacious showers are divided among the rooms. Breakfast is served in the garden or in the large dining room with a fireplace. A lovely infinity pool for simply lounging and taking in the breathtaking scenery has been specially designed to hug the hillside. Cooking classes, picnics and wine and cheese tastings can be arranged. All ingredients used in the hotel kitchen are sourced locally and a large onsite organic garden provides most of the produce. With all these marvelous ingredients, you simply cannot go wrong.
