- Karen Brown's Recommendation:
The Fallon Hotel is owned and operated in the same way as the nearby City Hotel in this gem of a Gold Rush town. The hotel opened in 1986 after receiving a $4,000,000 refurbishment from the State of California. The bedrooms are perfect reflections of the opulent 1880s, with patterned ceilings, colorful, fancy wallpaper, and grand antique furniture. Front rooms have shaded balconies. All have en suite pull-chain toilets and ornate washbasins. Like the nearby City Hotel, showers are down the hall and slippers, bathrobes, and baskets of toiletries are handily provided. One downstairs room has wider doors for wheelchair access. A simple buffet-style continental breakfast is provided. In the Fallon Hotel building is the Fallon Theater, offering a year-round schedule of contemporary dramas, musicals, and melodramas.
