Apparently it’s not too late! I recently received an email from the family-run Hotel Post in Grainau informing me that they still have some availability during the Oberammergau Passion Play season this year.Ā I love to visit the Bavarian Alps and have spent a great deal of time exploring the wonderful towns, hotels and countryside but I have never had the pleasure of attending the Passion Play held in Oberammergau even though it is on my Bucket List.
For those not familiar, a Passion Play usually depicts the life and death of Jesus of Nazerath. The Passion Play held in Oberammergau began in 1634 after the townspeople made a promise to God that if they were spared additional deaths from a plague that was devastating Europe that they would hold a Passion Play every ten years for all eternity. So far so good! 2010 will be the 41st time that the play staged by the community of Oberammergau. This year the season will begin on May 15th and will be performed a total of 102 times (five days a week) through September. Happy Traveling,
Karen
