The downfall of the Thomas Bond House has less to do with itself than it does with its surroundings. The Inn itself lived up to what I’ve come to expect from Karen Brown recommended places: Unique, quaint, lovely properties that I enjoy (and remember) staying at.

Unfortunately, due to the environment Bond house is located in its impact can’t be overlooked. My girlfriend and I had planned a 3 day weekend at the Bond house but checked out the very next morning after arrival. You see, the Bond house is located along a bar district in old town Philly. But worse yet, its located right next to Recess Lounge, a night club whose thumping music can not only be heard late into the night but also felt in the little Inns charming rooms.

On this particular night, though, the party spilled out onto the street just below our 3rd floor windows. In retrospect, my girlfriend and I have to admit to some entertainment value as we watched a scene ripped directly from MTV’s Jersey Shore unfold below us replete with a shirtless, shouting angry boyfriend, a crying screaming manic girlfriend, knots of friends alternately egging on the action and breaking up the fight, streets backed up with honking taxis (for minutes on end) and, eventually, the police showing up not once but twice. We endured this from the time we turned in at 11:30PM until about 4 or 5AM.

Needless to say, we weren’t going to endure that for the next 2 nights so we checked out immediately the next morning with refund in hand. I can only describe the looks of the other guests in the dining and living room the next morning as shell shocked. It seemed everyone in the Inn had been up all night from the raucous noise.

Although this is my first review on Karen Brown’s website I should say that I’ve been EXTREMELY satisfied with Karen Brown recommendations since I found them back in 2002. At that time I lived in Brussels and used Karen Brown almost exclusively for some of the best B&B recommendations throughout western Europe that I’ve ever received. Unfortunately I can’t say that about Thomas Bond.

Best B&B I’ve ever stayed in and I’ve stayed in dozens. It was all the extras and the courteous staff. Excellent host.

We arrived on AmTrak at the 30th St. Station and took the subway to 2nd St. Excellent location for Historic Area. B&B was warm & charming. Innkeeper Dan Weese and staff took very good care of us. A highlight was the happy hour each day at 5:30. We would stay here again.

In October of 2007, we stayed at the Thomas Bond House in Philadelphia. We found the Inn Managers to be friendly and very helpful with ideas of what we could do within walking distance of the historic district of Philadelphia. We experienced great breakfasts and especially enjoyed the nightly happy hour meeting the other guests. Staying for over a week, we were able to experience the Italian district, the Art Walk Night within the gallerias, the river walk, and ride the subways. Wonderful area to experience great restaurants and urban life.

We love this place. We are locals, living in the Philadelphia suburbs, but we have made a tradition of an annual Valentine’s Day getaway to the Thomas Bond house and Old City Philadelphia. Can’t be beat for romance and charm.

A charming small bed and breakfast in the Old Town of Philadelphia. Perfect location with walking distance to the tourist attractions and good restaurants. The room was charming with tv and ensuite bathroom. A nice and cosy atmosphere with a lounge downstairs. The breakfast could be more healthy. Really enjoyed my stay.
