The other reviews of La Torretta were older, but our recent stay showed that this B & B is still spectacular. The Sabine Hills are an undiscovered area of lovely hill towns, naturally landscaped vistas and wonderful people. Maureen and Roberto are fabulous! They set up an olive oil and wine tasting evening 2 doors down from their lovely B & B. We also had an amazing dinner nearby which was cooked by a local resident and his wife...all local ingredients and wonderful Reasonably priced, too! We are in Italy for a 2 month visit and this place is at the top of our list to return to. Casperia is a special town, well-kept, with lovely views, and hardly any tourists. The B & B is a great find. You can visit Rome by train and stay here in the quiet countryside.

We are so glad to have discovered La Torretta in Casperia and plan to return again soon. We stayed for 5 nights and had such a wonderful relaxing start to our holiday that we didn’t want to leave. the views from our bedroom and the breakfast room not to mention the outdoor terrace were just breathtaking. Maureen serves a delicious full breakfast which we were not expecting in Italy, then every day made suggestions about what to do and where to eat. The rooms are charming and spotless and are made up every day. Various activities take place and we were lucky enough to participate in a cooking class which turned out to be the best meal we had in Italy. Casperia is a quaint intact village, very easily accessible from Rome and a great place to explore the Sabine Hills area and Umbria. Getting back to grey rainy days, we cant stop thinking of sipping a glass of wine on the panoramic terrace.

We stayed with Maureen and Roberto for seven full days and it was one of the most relaxing and amazing trips we’ve ever taken. They are the most warm, welcoming and friendly people we’ve known. We know have a 2 year old son and are eager to take him to Casperia for his first trip to Italy. We took a significant number of photos showing the beauty of the surrounding countryside, as well as our day trips to Orvieto and Assisi--see http://www.flickr.com/photos/jspies/sets/72157601419629737/ for the photos of Casperia. This is a MUST VISIT for anyone looking to relax in Italy. As another reader mentioned, staying in Casperia is not for the faint of heart--there are 175 steps (almost exactly) from the town entrance to the front door of La Torretta, but the town makes the walk well worth it. If you stay over the weekend, make sure to visit the town wine shop in the evenings, it’s located in one of the squares and is a focal point for many visitors and residents.

We spent 2 nights with Maureen Scheda at la Torretta on Casperia. it is a small but charming place, but not for those who cannot manage trekking up levels of stairs through the village, but for who that can, well worth it. Maureen is an ex travel guide and really knows the ins and outs of travel and situations that may confront tourists. The restaurant just a short walk from La Torretta "Los Amicis" on a nice terrace is excellent and reasonable. Maureen can recommend several other fine restaurants reachable by car. She is very helpful, and her historical village perched up on top of the hill is both quaint and attractive.

The perfect antidote to busy Rome is Casperia, Italy - a perfect introduction to hilltop towns. You will relax at the top of the world at La Torretta B&B, just one and a half hours northeast of Rome. The views are spectacular from the terrace and the breakfast is fabulous. This tiny town has small cobblestone paths connecting the village homes and one restaurant.
