We consider our stay at Coolclogher to be one of the most special experiences of our pretty extensive travel life.  Completely elegant yet completely relaxing.  We have never stayed in a more beautiful house, or in more beautiful surroundings.  Upon arriving, we immediately wished we could stay longer, as it was clear we would be wanting not only to see the local sights, but also to spend several days just around the house, enjoying each room and every conceivable view.  Spring is a fantastic time of year to visit.

AND, it’s literally a 25-minute walk to downtown Killarney, with its shopping, pubs, music and sights.  Also, our several bike rides on the trails through Killarney National Park were the most gorgeous we’ve done.  You can also bike from downtown to Muckross House and Lake, and the 12th Century Ross Castle.  There is a good reason this is considered the most beautiful part of Ireland.

The owners are sweet and generous people who now feel like friends, and can arrange day tours to the Ring of Kerry, Great Blaskett Islands, the Gap of Dunloe, and other fabulous destinations, and the bus will come right to the house to pick you up and drop you off.  Believe me, the other passengers will be impressed with you when they see where you’re staying!  A picture of the house is now my wife’s screensaver!

In sum, a place to dream about long after you’ve left, and to dream about returning to.

Coolclogher House is a stunning house in a beautiful location. The home is furnished with lovely antiques/art work. The kitchen is huge and is a great place to sit, relax, cook and have wonderful conversations in. It is fully equipped with an Aga and there is also a log burner which really gives this spacious room a nice homey touch. The bedrooms are beautiful with large king-size beds on which I had the best nights sleep in years and the fact that every bedroom was en-suite was great! The owners also provide a barbeque and the spacious gardens and fields were a delight to walk through with the family dog Jesi. While we stayed at the manor we had many dinners but our most memorable were when we hired caterers which Mary recommended to cook for us in the beautiful dining room. Mary’s daughter Katie sang Irish songs from the area which was a real treat. I cannot recommend this home enough. The location is perfect only five minutes away from Killarney town and the amazing National Park. Mary organized all our trips and was available to answer even the silliest of questions which was a great help. I will definitely be staying here again in the near future.

I first traveled to Ireland in 1983 and have made every effort to return every year or two. I have stayed in many of the more luxurious castles and manor B&Bs and always return to one place: the Coolclogher House in Killarney. Mary and Maurice are like a second family to me--always gracious and welcoming, seemingly excited to welcome me ’home’. The rooms a large and spacious with extraordinarily comfortable beds and quality linens. The bathrooms are modern and all en suite. The breakfasts are delicious and plentiful. But most of all, I enjoy sitting in the kitchen with our hosts. Ever quick with a story and a wee bit of the dram, Mary and Maurice are delightful companionship. They offer me a glimpse of Ireland life, ever changing and ever the same. Now home, I am already looking forward to my next trip.

I just returned home from my 4th vacation to Ireland and have stayed in a number of great country houses. However, I have never been made to feel so welcome and at home as I did staying with the Harnetts in their beautiful Coolclogher House! Mary and Maurice and their family made my mother and I feel like we were staying in the home of friends. The house itself is beautiful-- inviting, warm and immaculately kept and decorated. I have a wheat/ gluten intolerance and Mary went above and beyond in helping to accomodate my needs with purchasing special breads for my breakfast toast and biscuits for my tea. The location cannot be beat, with downtown Killarney 5 minutes in one direction and Killarney National Park and Muckross House 5 minutes in the other. Worth every penny and a place you will want to return to as soon as you leave it!

I have returned to the Coolclogher House four times since I first visited shortly after it opened in 2001, and each time it becomes harder for me to leave than the last. For many reasons the Coolclogher House has become my home base for my repeated explorations of Ireland’s beautiful southwest region. First and foremost, the Coolclogher House is a reflection of its owners Mary and Maurice Harnett, who are wonderful, engaging, funny hosts who I now think of more as friends than as the proprietors of the most beautiful manor home in the Killarney region. The house itself is understated elegance, decorated and maintained to the highest standard. The bedrooms are large, light, and meticulously kept and most feature amazing views of the surrounding mountains. The grounds are stunning, an expanse of open space and trees that somehow offer solitude and tranquility while being within walking distance of Killarney’s bustling downtown. I could go on for paragraphs about the sheets, the dog, the breakfasts, and the many little things that contribute to a stay at the Coolclogher House, but in conclusion I will say only that the Coolclogher House as become one of those invaluable count-on-one hand places in the world to which I always know that I will return, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

This fabulous home is so wonderful I am returning to visit this month. We rented Coolclogher for the entire family including my 81 year old mother in late June/early July 2006. The accommodations are lovely and the kitchen fully equipped to engage in gourmet cooking for our large bunch. The house is spacious. with comfortable sitting rooms and a fabulous dining room, all with breathtaking views. The grounds are lovely with views of the lakes and rolling hills. Nearby are all sort of attractions. One can walk into Killarney which was fabulous for the teenagers in our group. They could also rent bicycles nearby. A place one must visit.

Hi there everybody, I would just like to recommend this place that I visited in Ireland earlier this year. I came over from the States with my family on a four week stay at Cooclogher House, and I can honestly say it was the best holiday ever. Everybody was so nice and friendly, we had some great chats with Mary and Maurice who really made me feel so welcome!!! The house and grounds are really gorgeous. The house is surrounded by fields and everything is green for miles around. I used to get up early and go for walks in the fields with their dog Jessie who was just so small and cute and friendly!!! At the top of a big hill on the house grounds you can even see the lakes of Killarney. The location is amazing and even though the house feels so quiet and peaceful its only like a 5 minute drive from the National Park and 5 minutes to Killarney town. There is so much to see and do in this area, and its great for day trips too because we went all the way round the Ring of Kerry, and went to Dingle from here and everything. This is definitely the place to stay if you are visiting this area, I can’t recommend it highly enough!!!

Truly a very special place. From the expansive, sunlight flooded bedrooms (with supremely comfortable beds), to the warm welcome from Mary Maurice and the house mascot, Jessie. Imagine being a short walk to the hustle of Killarney, yet waking up to the sound of a sheepherder and his dog. Imagine wandering the fields and stables surrounded by horses, cows, guinea hens, and the tranquility of nature. If you consider Ireland a very special place in the world, then Cooldogher House is certainly a very special part of Ireland.
