I just wanted you to know that we visited Kenmare at KB's suggestion. And we could not have been more delighted to find Thomas and Maura Foley waiting for us after our 4 hour drive from Galway on an early spring evening. Their place and their breakfast knocked our socks off. Maura is truly a forerunner of the Irish local cuisine movement. Alice Waters has nothing on Maura and her sister Grainne who runs the Purple Heather in town. Irish coffee to die for. And Packies...was on par with any wonderful meal here in San Francisco. Unpretentious, interesting food. Thank you for steering us in the right direction. From A Mom from Marin and her two daughters (aged 22 and 18)

We’ve just returned from three weeks in Ireland, staying almost every night in one of the places featured in our Karen Brown book. They were all great, and Shelburne Lodge was our hands-down favorite of them all. Maura and Tom are wonderful. Gracious, engaging, and extraordinarily helpful. While driving the Beara Peninsula one day, we blew a tire on our rental car. Tom not only recommended a garage where it could be fixed, but also called ahead to notify the owner we were coming, and sent a personal note of introduction along with us. Even though the garage was quite busy, Tom’s note put us at the head of the line, and had us back on the road within 30 minutes. Shelburne Lodge is a wonderful old house, but the decor is closer to Carmel, California than to musty Victoriana. Maura’s genius extends far beyond the kitchen. The entire house is warm, beautifully decorated, and immensely comfortable. We’d come back in a heartbeat. And we probably will.

Have been using your guides for years and always love your recommendations for hotels and itineraries. Just stayed in the Shelburne Lodge in Kenmare, Ireland last week and found it every bit as charming as you said it was. Tom and Maura were incredible hosts and Maura is a fabulous cook. We had a family group of 14 and everyone had a great time!

We recently stayed at the Shelburne Lodge in Kenmare based on your recommendation. It was as advertised. Could not have been better. Thanks
