Blanche's Christmas Jewels Cookies

Ingredients :







  • 3 1/2 Cups All-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Baking Soda

  • 1/2 Cup Buttermilk (or ˝ cup milk mixed with 1 teaspoon lemon juice)

  • 2 Cups Chopped candied cherries ( red and green)

  • 2 Cups Chopped dates

  • 2 Cups Chopped Pecans

  • 2 Cups Dark brown sugar

  • 2 Eggs

  • 1 Teaspoon Salt

  • 1 Cup Shortening

    Blanche's family came from England. Christmas is one of her family's favorite holidays -- and she enjoys baking these cookies to share with family and friends.




    Description :




    A soft, sweet cookie, filled with candied cherries and crunchy pecans.




    Instructions :




    Blanche's Christmas Jewels Cookies 

    Combine shortening, sugar, eggs and buttermilk; beat well. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together. Stir into shortening mixture; mix well. Add pecans, cherries and dates, mixing well. Drop by tablespoons onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 300-degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until light brown in color. Remove from cookie sheet and cool on wire racks. Store in container with a tight-fitting lid; cookies keep well at least a week. Makes 3 to 4 dozen.
