Restaurante Maricastana

A visit to the Sierra de Aracena means a visit to one of the regions of Spain responsible for producing the worlds finest hams. The native, black Iberican pig can graze in the countryside on an abundance of acorns here, which gives their meat a special delicate flavour appreciated by the world's best chefs. In the heart of the Sierra lies Castano del Robledo, a small, white Andalucian village not far from our cottages here in Alajar. Restaurante Maricastana is situated in the beautiful main square and located in one of the village's graceful old houses. Chef Andres Echevarria prepares a variety of dishes that utilize locally grown produce. Inevitably many of his best offerings make use of the special Iberican pork and ham which he cooks to perfection. Goat cheese and mushrooms from the area also feature prominently on his menu. He has a selection of some of Spain's best wines, which you can enjoy while dining in one of the two main rooms or sit out on the sheltered terrace and take in the views across the Sierra. Heavenly!
