We have lived in Montepulciano since 2006, owning and operating the boutique bed and breakfast hotel, La Locanda di San Francesco and we have dinner at the La Grotta Restaurant almost every week . Because we consider it the best of our area, we recommend it to our guests and so far we had only a positive feedback from them.
La Grotta, a family run and family owned restaurant, is in one of the most beautiful locations of Montepulciano: just right next to the Tempio di San Biagio. The restaurant also has a very nice garden which is open during the warm season for lunch and dinner.
The restaurant menu is based on seasonal products. Local and traditional food is presented with a modern approach, and the service is outstanding. La Grotta offers a wide choice of local wines, with a good selection of wines from France (especially Pinot Noir and Champagne).
My favourite dishes are: tagliolini con verdure (tagliolini with seasonal vegetables and bacon), maialino in crosta, petto d’anatra al miele, agnello alle erbe. Also not to miss: gelato al pistacchio made with the famous pistachios from Bronte, Sicily.t
