New England
Vermont
Overview:
Vermont, the largest maple syrup producer in the states and home to the Green Mountain Boys Militia of Revolutionary War fame, is the only New England state lacking a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. Vermont more than makes up for a lack of fisheries with its natural beauty, particularly the Green Mountains which run north to south through the center of the state.
Pilgrimages are made on a yearly basis to admire the fall colors throuout the state. The reds, golds and oranges of the sugar maples color the hills, signaling the onset of winter. Winters, while a bit nippy, are for outdoor activities such as skiing, both alpine and nordic, skating, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Summers are mild and inviting for exploring beautiful parks and small rural towns. Spring, with its appropriate nickname, 'the mud season', is probably the least hospitable time of year to visit.
There is a wide range of lodging accomodations in Vermont ranging from rural country inns and bed and breakfasts, to boutique hotels. to larger resorts in the mountainous ski areas. Our selective list of Vermont Hotels has wonderful properties whose proprietors are eager to open their doors for you.
