EMILIA-ROMAGNA: Emilia Romagna covers a large stretch of territory from the Adriatic Sea to almost the opposite side of the country. The bordering regions to the north are Veneto, Lombardy, Piedmont, and Liguria; and to the south, Tuscany and Marches. Italy’s main autostrada runs right through Emilia-Romagna, dividing the flat plains to the north from the lush fertile hills to the south. There is a wealth of precious works of art in this region from the magnificent Byzantine mosaics in Ravenna, wonderful Romanesque churches in Modena and Parma, to Renaissance art and architecture in Ferrara and Bologna. From the beaches of Rimini where international youth swarm in the summer months, dancing until dawn, to some of the most important opera and music festivals of international fame in Modena, Bologna, and Parma, this region has it all.
