Greece
Peloponnese
Overview:
A peninsula or an island? The Peloponesse is the southernmost point of mainland Greece. The region that boasts the birth of the Olympic Games, honors its famous ancient cities as Sparte, Mycenae and Pylos that flourished in antiquity, and hosts the acknowledged ancient theatre of Epidaurus. Peloponesse has been intensively been marked by history through the centuries, and today one can still find numerous byzantine churches and regions as Monemvasia, striking medieval remains as the Mani, and old venetian castles like in Nafplio, Methoni.
Famous today for the Olive Oil and tourism, Peloponnese offers a vast wealth of natural beauty with mountains and unspoiled beaches and a rich gastronomy based in olive oil and local herbs.
