Germany

Hesse

Overview:

Located just southwest of the center of Germany, the Hessen state does not share a border with a foreign country as it is bordered only by other German states. Most of the its population is located in the southern area of the region. The largest city in the region is Frankfurt and the capital is the city of Wiesbaden.

Just outside of Wiesbaden along the River Rhine is a small wine growing region known as the Rheingau. Explore the gently sloping, vineyard-covered hillsides of the towns such as Eltville, Kiedrich and Kloster Eberbach which line the banks of the river. This small wine area is especially noted for its Riesling wines.
