Carinthia

Overview:

Less well known than the gorgeous lakes around Salzburg are the equally beautiful and numerous lakes sprinkled among the mountains of southern Austria in the region of Carinthia. Warming in the summer, the lakes are not only spectacular but offer an abundance of water activities.

These southern lakes are surrounded by majestic mountains including the mighty Dolomites whose jagged peaks form the border between Austria and Italy. In winter, the abundant water changes from liquid to snow and ice creating a paradise for winter sportsman.

The towns, hotels and scenery not to mention the delicious food and wine make this a region to explore throughout or, if time does not allow, to pick a spot and linger for several days.
