Austria
Burgenland
Overview:
Burgenland, the "land of castles", is the youngest of the nine Austrian Provinces having been created in 1921. If you look closely, on nearly every strategic mountaintop a castle or the ruins of a once mighty fortress remains. These castles were a necessity, a defense against the fierce invaders from the once-mighty Ottoman Empire.
Burgenland is famous as Austria's cradle of music as some of the country’s best known musicians were born in the region. If the music is not to your taste take comfort in the knowledge that one-third of Austria's wine production and many of its finest wines comes from here, particularly from the mysterious Neusiedler See region.
Castles, wine and music make Burgenland a wonderful region to explore and spend days sampling excellent food, delightful accomodations and world famous Austrian charm and hospitality. Some of Austria's finest Castle Hotels, Schloss Hotels, Bed and Breakfast Inns and other fine accomodations can be found in our list of Burgenland Hotels.
