California

Central Valley

Overview:

The relatively flat Central Valley of California runs through the center of the state from north to south and includes some of the most fertile agricultural land anywhere in the world. the valley produces nearly one-quarter of the food consumed in this country. The northern half of the valley consists of the Sacramento Valley while the southern half is the San Juaquin Valley. These two valleys meet approximately mid-state at the delta formed by the drainage of the Sacramento and San Juaquin Rivers. If you are traveling north to south or east to west in your visit to California there is a strong likelihood you will venture into the Central Valley.
