A crostata (crow-staw-ta) is a simple Italian sweet. Crostatas need to look rustic and homemade, and not like a double-crusted American pie. Experiment using different types of seasonal fruits, like cherries and peaches.

All the guests seem to love this dessert.. it is like the LBD (little black dress) you can dress it up or dress it down. It is so quick and easy to make, cooks in less than 20 minutes so prep ahead (if you remember, if not no biggie, percolate the coffee and by the time that's done the cake will be pretty much done.) Is best served still warm.

This is the simplest pie in the world to make, though it is a bit more like a crumble than an actual pie. We are often asked to share this recipe. This year we were in Mexico for Thanksgiving and the chef at a Karen Brown's Dolphin Cove Inn resort made his own special version of it for us!
