Karen's Review Of This Property:
As Route 4 takes a gentle bend and angles into the heart of downtown Woodstock, you see the Charleston House, a Greek Revival townhouse with a handsome brick and shuttered façade. From the side entrance you pass into the elegant dining room where guests enjoy a candlelit country breakfast. Continue on into the front living room where guests often settle in front of the fire. The only guestroom on the first floor, The Antique Store, is a cozy room with a high four-poster queen bed covered by pretty quilts. Climb the stairs from the living room to four more of the original guestrooms. A lovely front corner room, Pomfret Hills, is decorated in a pretty, soft-green floral and has a handsome four-poster bed and lots of windows. One of the smallest rooms, Hillary Underwood (named for the original owner) is simple in decor and its bathroom, although private, is located across the hallway. Gables, tucked under the eaves, enjoys a claw-foot tub and Good Friends, the only twin-bedded room, is decorated in blues. In an addition behind the main building are four luxurious guestrooms. Here we were able to see only one of the two ground-floor suites, Mount Peg, a handsome, spacious room with a dramatic four-poster bed, fireplace, and Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom.
