The 1811 House Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

When you enter The 1811 House, which has been operating as a hostelry since 1811, you will feel as if you have stepped back in time. Within the walls of the original building and the adjacent cottage are 13 guestrooms, the most romantic with fireplaces and one with a private balcony. I loved the cottage room that takes up the entire second floor and has a peaked ceiling: from the bed you can see the fireplace and there’s a comfortable pair of leather chairs for sitting and reading. Suites are defined as having a sitting area, but any of the fireplace rooms are extremely cozy. The Jeremiah French Suite with its canopied bed set on old plank floors in front of a wood-burning fireplace is wonderful. The common rooms have wood-burning fireplaces and are furnished with English and American antiques, prints, and Oriental rugs. There’s an inviting little pub with bar stools snuggled up to the highly polished dark-wood bar and a group of tables by the windows. One of the innkeepers has a passion for single-malt Scotch whiskies and there’s a collection of them that will far exceed your ability to taste. Scottish ale is also on tap. This property is deceiving in that it sits right on the main street but has 7 acres of land with a pond and gardens. From anywhere out back the views to the picturesque Green Mountains are yours to enjoy.
