Karen's Review Of This Property:
Fortunate for the traveler, a highway that would have required demolition of the brick Priory and its adjacent church, was relocated and the buildings spared. The complex attracted the interest and commitment of Ed and Mary Graf, who converted it in 1986 to an upscale hotel. Located in the Pittsburgh’s Deutschtown District, within walking distance of the Warhol Museum and near the sport stadiums, The Priory has established a wonderful reputation and many loyal, returning guests. Under the example set by their son, John, the staff exudes graciousness, warmth of welcome and professional attentiveness. John’s wife, Suzanne, busy raising their family, is, however, responsible for many details and decisions that go on behind the scenes to ensure guest comfort. The Priory has just 24 rooms, three of which are two-room suites. All are handsome and uncluttered in their décor. There is no elevator; so those who might find negotiating the old stairways difficult might want to request the ground floor suite. In the public areas, flowers abound and there is a lovely salon warmed by a fireplace where wine is offered evenings. Just beyond is the Library, which also serves as the honor bar. A hearty buffet breakfast is set in a beautiful paneled pantry. Guests can choose to dine in the elegant dining room or in the lovely garden courtyard.
