Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Griffin House, a pretty little clapboard house painted gray with white trim and with a white picket fence, dates back to the late 1800s when it served as the local doctor’s office and pharmacy. Later, five cottages were added behind the office to house some of the lumbermen coming to the growing town of Elk. The garden cottages are pleasant and very good value for money, but truly outstanding are the dollhouse-like cottages on the edge of the bluff. In fact, these three separate cottages offer the most sensational views anywhere on the California coast. Two of them, named after early settlers of Elk, have a wood-burning stove, a sitting area, a wall of windows overlooking the coast, and a private redwood deck with chairs and table. The third oceanfront cottage, Kestrel, is the prize with its gas-flame stove, wooden floors, contemporary furnishings and private deck. These tiny cottages are cleanly simple in their decor, providing old-fashioned, basic comfort but with a vista so spectacular it fairly takes your breath away. The restaurant, its tables topped with white linen cloths, offers well priced meal choices. (hours vary).
