Karen's Review Of This Property:
Gateways, a majestic inn that fronts Walker Street at the heart of Lenox, was once the summer mansion of Harley Procter of Procter and Gamble. Today, guests bask in the present owners’ warmth of welcome and sense of humor (Fabrizio brings his own touch of Italian charm), which create a comfortable balance of elegance and hospitality. Just off the entry you find a lovely bedroom, The Berkshire, converted from what was once Mr. Procter’s study, and the dining room, a very elegant room with a dark-rust wall and gorgeous high moldings contrasting in white. The menu, created by Rosemary the chef, is considered one of the best in Lenox and the wine list is marvelous. Climb the absolutely gorgeous wide staircase as its wide platform and gorgeous banister wind up to guestrooms. We selected what was Mr. Procter’s own bedroom, a large front-corner room whose bath enjoys a claw-foot tub designed especially to accommodate his exceptional height. The next-door room is bright and sunny and decorated in cheery yellows. Room 4, formerly Mrs. Procter’s apartment, is the only suite—a large living room was once her bedchamber and her porch is now the bedroom, enclosed by a bounty of windows framed in yards of rich, gorgeous fabric.
