Karen's Review Of This Property:
Built in the 1920s as a summer home for a New York physician, Applegate is now a commanding country inn with a four-column façade set among perennial gardens, towering pine trees, and rolling lawns. A particularly gracious front hall has a lovely carved staircase leading up to the second floor. In addition to the living room, there is a TV room with a VCR and a video library for the use of guests. The bedrooms and cottage are furnished with reproduction antiques and provide all the amenities one would expect as a guest in a gracious home of this period. Room 1 has a four-poster king bed and a sofa in the sitting area, which has a fireplace; the bathroom contains a large steam shower. Room 3 has a French-style sleigh bed, a fireplace, and views out to the lawns and pine trees. Two new luxury suites with balconies and fireplaces offer a choice of a soaking tub or whirlpool tub for two. The Carriage House Cottage, with two bedrooms sharing one bath, a full kitchen, living room, dining room, and deck, would be ideal for a family or for two couples traveling together. The Carriage House also contains two luxury suites with large Jacuzzis and gas fireplaces. Amenities include a pool, bicycles, and 6 acres of grounds. A full gourmet breakfast is served in the candlelit dining room and wine and cheese are served in the evening.
