Karen's Review Of This Property:
The town of Concord is steeped in the history of the founding of the American Colonies and in the battles with Britain that led to independence. Set amongst trees and gardens, the Hawthorne Inn, built in 1870 and situated on land that once belonged to Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Alcotts, and Nathaniel Hawthorne, is within easy walking distance of many of the town’s points of historical interest. The bedrooms are named after famous people or places associated with this area—for example, Emerson, Alcott, Walden, and Sleepy Hollow—and the books in the rooms continue the theme. Flowered wallpapers, queen canopy beds, and hand-sewn quilts make the bedrooms very comfortable. They are not large but they provide all you’ll want after a day of touring the history-filled countryside. Children are welcomed and if yours are interested in history, it would be hard to think of a better place to stay. The owners are art aficionados and have hung the walls with an eclectic collection of contemporary art. Continental breakfast, the only meal served, offers fresh fruit, juice, home-baked breads, and either a selection of teas or the inn’s own blend of coffee. The innkeepers have prepared a week’s program of things for you to do while visiting the area—follow their suggestions for a memorable and educational vacation.
