Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Blue Hill Inn, located right in the heart of a picture-perfect coastal village, has a history stretching almost back to when the town was chartered in 1789. It was first settled in 1762. Both the town and inn offer the classic New England hospitality of yesteryear. Exceptionally comfortable with a charming innkeeper, the inn has provided lodging since 1840. Two separate stairways, off either side of the cozy central living room warmed by a large open fireplace lead to myriad accommodations—eleven bedrooms. A luxury suite, the Cape House, is in a separate building. The attractive first floor king (or twin-bedded room), number 1; dramatic number 4 at the top of the stairs with handsome four-poster king bed against a dark floral backdrop; or the very pretty back corner room number 8 with a four-poster bed embraced by windows on three sides—it is hard to select a favorite. The house was built in two stages; evidenced by two front doors, two entries and three stairways. Note the “Mortgage Button” (applied when fees were paid) on the end post of one stairway dated in the 1830s. Each evening the inn serves wine, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. Breakfast offers a choice of five entrees.
