Karen's Review Of This Property:
On a 3/4 acre hilltop above the town of Sonora, the Barretta Gardens Inn, built in 1904, sits off the road in the shade of its own lush landscaped garden, a 10 minute walk to downtown restaurants and antique shops. A splendid mansion from days gone by. Barretta Gardens benefits from the enthusiasm of its owners, Astrid Wasserman and Daniel Stone. On one side of the first parlor is the dining room whose chandelier is original to the home. During the summer months breakfast is served on the porch overlooking the gardens. Guestrooms are named after locally grown grape varietals. The Cabernet Sauvignon room enjoys 10-foot-high ceilings, Italian antique furniture and a living room (or second bedroom) with a fire stove and private entrance. The attached bathroom with whirlpool spa for two has lace-covered windows overlooking the rose garden and foothills. Decked out with lace curtains and dark red carpeting the Tempranillo’s wall of windows look out to the Sonora hills. Downstairs, San Giovese, a two bedroom suite, has a fireplace in its living room, a walk in shower and soaking tub for two. Upstairs, the Zinfandel room is pretty in a wash of rose, while the Barbara room has a brass king-size bed. A parlor sits between the Barbara and Syrah, which together can be rented as a two-room suite or as a one-room suite with just the Syrah.
