Karen's Review Of This Property:
Dogs (and cats) are welcome to join their owners at Cypress Inn, just blocks from the village’s famous beach, shops, galleries, and restaurants. On a recent visit, three dogs enjoyed each others’ company by the fire in the beautifully vaulted living room while their owners’ read the morning papers. Built in 1929 in the Spanish mission-style, the hotel has, in recent years, received a complete facelift including all 44 rooms. “Terry’s” (named after principal owner, leading lady Doris Day’s son, Terry Melcher) is a great place to enjoy breakfast, scrumptious afternoon teas, light dinners and lunches. Smartly decorated in beiges and creams, the majority of the bedrooms are not large. Suites 221 and 222 are the most spacious with separate bedrooms and living rooms, verandas, and bathrooms with circular jetted tubs. My favorite room is 215, large and airy, featuring a four-poster king bed, fireplace and private deck with distant ocean views. Guestrooms located off the central courtyards are particularly attractive, several with fireplaces and air conditioning. Carmel is an especially dog- friendly town where Rover can run free on the beach. Many stores welcome pooches with treats and water bowls, and several restaurants offer doggie menus.
