Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Inn at Depot Hill, just two blocks up the hill from the beach and picturesque village of Capitola-by-the-Sea, dates back to 1901 when it was built as a Southern Pacific railroad station. The property does not sit on a large lot, so the grounds are minimal. Inside, the inn’s imaginative decor reflects the theme of first-class train travel at the turn of the century: the bedrooms are handsomely decorated and named after different parts of the world—as if a guest were taking a railway journey and stopping at different destinations. My favorite is the unexpectedly Oriental Kyoto room, tucked away in a secluded corner complete with Buddha, reflecting pool, Asian antiques, and a huge soaking tub. The rooms feature many caring touches such as cutwork-lace sheets and pillowcases, and sumptuous feather beds. There is a wealth of other amenities including televisions VCR/DVD players, luxurious marble bathrooms, some Jacuzzi tubs on private outdoor patios, and even mini-televisions in all of the bathrooms. An elegant full breakfast is served either in the dining room, the romantic walled garden, or your room. Complimentary early-evening wine and hors d’oeuvres and late-evening desserts and port are served from the dining-room buffet.
