Karen's Review Of This Property:
Judges Country House started out in the 1880’s as Kirklevington Hall, originally commissioned by the Richardson family of Hartlepool as their rural retreat. It remained a private residence for nearly one hundred years, until it was taken over by the local authorities to provide lodging for circuit judges on location in the northeast of the country. More recently it has been reborn as a privately owned traditional country house hotel. Many of the original architectural features, high ceilings, sash windows, dark wood paneling and the spacious conservatory coexist with comfortable furnishings, luxurious feather mattresses, four-poster beds and all electrical mod-cons. An interesting twist is the presence of a goldfish in a bowl in each of the rooms. Meals are served in the conservatory and feature local produce alongside an extensive wine list. A small stream meanders over waterfalls and under bridges throughout the extensive grounds. Natural woodlands provide guests with a network of pathways to stroll or jog among the flora and fauna native to North Yorkshire. It’s a central location for exploring the North York Moors and visiting Rievaulx Abbey as well as exploring the coast where Whitby (one-time home of Captain Cook) is a must visit.
