Karen's Review Of This Property:
Set back from the road in its own gardens and surrounded by green fields Newforge House is an oasis of calm scarcely thirty minutes drive from Belfast and both of its airports. Built in the late 1700’s by a successful linen merchant, (remnants of his mill are still standing at the back of the property) the house has been in the family of its current owners for six generations. It was lovingly restored and renovated over a two year period by John and Louise Mathers and opened to receive guests in 2005. Food is a major focus, local produce is sourced and prepared personally by John. Comfortably proportioned sitting and dining rooms are beautifully furnished, collectibles and modern furniture blend with carefully restored architectural features; plaster cornices, wooden window shutters, marble and black iron fireplaces. Bedrooms, named after various ladies in the family history, are to be found on the second and third floors. I particularly liked the four poster and half tester beds in the superior rooms. Standard rooms on the third floor, while a trifle simpler and with slightly lower ceiling are also very lovely. All are provided with elegant en-suite bathrooms. Visiting the Giants Causeway makes a great day out while closer at hand are Belfast and an array of interesting houses and gardens.
