The Merchant Hotel Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

This impressive building with its façade of carved stonework columns and statuary dates back to 1860. Originally constructed as the grand headquarters of the Ulster Bank, it has been extensively remodeled and renovated prior to opening as a five-star hotel. Guestrooms feature dramatically high ceilings, custom furniture, antiques, original artwork and sumptuous soft furnishings. Splendid en-suite bathrooms with brown marble, white porcelain, sparkling chrome and glass are no less than would be expected. All the electronic needs of today’s traveler, large flat-screen TV’s, wireless internet and CD/DVD players complete the picture. Suites, with their splendid hip-bath soaking tubs, are located in the original bank management living quarters. Vaults, with their massive steel doors intact, have been converted to wine cellars and a snooker room. “The Bar”, which specializes in cocktails, is to be found adjacent to the appropriately named “Great Room” Restaurant. The latter, created in what was the original public banking area is the epitome of elegance. The Restaurant, which features intricate plasterwork, an antique Clevi harp, a huge Tyrone Crystal chandelier, discreetly separated tables and rich décor, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and afternoon teas.
