Karen's Review Of This Property:
Standing on the River Frome on the edge of the lovely town of Wareham, this 16th-century building was once the priory of Lady St. Mary, a Benedictine monastery, and is now a particularly lovely hotel. The entrance, through a little walled courtyard, sets the tone for this most delightful hotel. Decorated in soft colors, the dining room is most inviting. Lovely furniture and a grand piano highlight the beamed living room whose French windows lead under the wisteria-laden trellis to a broad expanse of lawn, which slopes down to the lazily flowing river—a perfect place to enjoy lunch on a warm summer day. A narrow maze of corridors and stairs winds amongst the rooms, which are on the small side but very smartly outfitted. If you are looking for the most deluxe of quarters, request one of the suites in the riverside boathouse. The gardens are a delight, full of roses in the summer, with a series of small, sheltered walled gardens. Wareham is an interesting mix of architectural styles encircled by earth banks built by the Saxons. Lawrence of Arabia’s home is open to the public at nearby Clouds Hill. There are many wonderful places to visit, such as Lulworth Cove, Corfe Castle, Poole Harbor, Wool, Bindon Abbey, and Durlston Head.
