Stock Hill House Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

The heart and soul of a successful country house hotel are its owners and at Stock Hill House Nita and Peter Hauser fill the bill perfectly, with the ebullient Nita presiding over the front of house and Peter being the chef. For over 20 years they have worked their magic on this delightful hotel. The result is a pleasing, eclectic decor and the mood is that of a luxurious private residence where you can stroll through the acres of garden to work up an appetite. At dinner vegetables from the garden and local Dorset produce are the order of the day, but remember to save room for one of Austrian-born Peter’s decadent desserts. Bedrooms are delightful, and while I was particularly drawn to the opportunity to repose in the coach house in an ornate wrought-iron bed, which once belonged to a Spanish princess, I opted for the luxury of Room 4 in the main house. This lovely hotel is the perfect place for you to treat yourself to an extra-special getaway. If you are tempted to leave the grounds, you’ll find the location ideal for visiting Sherbourne Abbey, Stourhead Gardens, Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury with its King Arthur connections, and the Saxon town of Shaftesbury.

I have stayed at this hotel on many, many occasions including Christmas and New Year and have always found great attention to detail, tremendous care taken in making up the rooms (I have slept in most), wonderful meals and great repartee with Nita and many of the other guests. I feel that mention must be made of Nita’s sister Lorna who is not only indispensable in the kitchen but a great support in other parts of the hotel - she is so often forgotten.
