Karen's Review Of This Property:

Blagdon Manor is a little gem of a hotel set in the gently undulating northwest Devon countryside. This is not a grand manor house but rather a farmhouse of comfortably proportioned rooms with little windows peeking out through thick stone walls. Built in the 17th century on the site of a farmhouse mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book, the house is pleasantly rambling, with lots of interesting nooks and crannies—we particularly liked the cozy beamed bar. It stands in its own grounds well away from traffic with lawns that stretch out to a vista of fields and the distant hills. Owners Liz and Steve Morey are always in evidence, so you really feel that you are staying in the countryside with friends rather than at a hotel. Steve offers six choices for each of the three courses of dinner in the low, beamed dining room. The country-cozy bedrooms are decorated in sunny colors, and each is accompanied by a very nice bathroom. Ask for one of the larger rooms. Room 8 is a large luxurious suite. You can tour much of Devon and Cornwall from this peaceful countryside spot. To the west lie Boscastle Harbour and the ruins of Tintagel Castle, while to the south is Llanhydrock, a not-to-be-missed stately home.

Directions: Leave Launceston on the A388, Holsworthy road. Pass Chapman’s Well and the first sign to Ashwater. Turn right at the second Ashwater sign (8 miles from Holsworthy) and first right, signposted Blagdon. The hotel is on the right.
