Karen's Review Of This Property:
Between Keble and Somerville colleges you find the Old Parsonage Hotel, a wisteria-draped, golden-stone building dating back to 1660. Years past, the Old Parsonage grew like Topsy with a higgledy-piggledy collection of rooms and corridors added to the rear. Now it is a very smart boutique hotel perfect for walking to everything Oxford. The main bar with its Russian red walls covered with original cartoons and interesting portraits is open from breakfast until late. You can enjoy lunch, afternoon tea, a cocktail and dinner. In summer dining moves to the walled terrace where there’s live jazz on a Friday evening and a lobster barbeque at weekends. Bedrooms are delightful. We particularly like rooms 8, 9 and 10 (standard rooms) which open up to a garden terrace. Several larger rooms overlook the leafy, rear garden. The largest rooms, our favorites, are the four rooms in the original house. Reached through a pretty sitting room and up a narrow flight of stairs, they have slanting doors, uneven floors, and little windows peeking out through the wisteria. Take a picnic and borrow one of the hotels bicycles or punts to explore the real Oxford. Enjoy a personal walking tour of the town every afternoon at 2pm or relax and enjoy an in-house beauty treatment at any time.
