Karen's Review Of This Property:
Viewfield House has always been home to the Macdonald family and there have always been Macdonalds on Skye. At the end of the 19th century this prosperous family remodeled Viewfield House adding a huge extension of large, grand rooms and completing the refurbishment with a baronial tower. Continuing a tradition begun by his grandmother, Hugh welcomes guests to his home—while there are caring staff who will carry your bag, pour you a drink and bring you afternoon tea this is very much a home stay at a very special house. There’s an elephant’s foot umbrella stand and wellies in the entrance hall, trophies of hunts and safaris (along with a smattering of British wildlife specimens) in the entrance hall, and a welcoming fire in the living room. (If you want to watch telly ask for directions to the library.) Bedrooms come in all sizes from vast to cozy depending on whether you are in the Victorian or Georgian wing of the house—several have zip and link beds that can be king or twin. Two single rooms are available at half the price of a double. There are washers and dryers for the use of guests. Portree is an interesting town. Viewfield is a perfect base for your explorations of Skye.
