The Dower House
A Karen Brown Recommended Hotel / Inn

Karen's Review Of This Property:
Set at the foot of the Black Isle (a sheltered spit of land just north of Inverness), The Dower House was built as the retirement home for the owners of baronial Highfield House. While Highfield fell into disrepair, The Dower House flourished and was remodeled into a cottage orné, an adorable, single-story doll’s house. The cute exterior belies a more spacious interior. The dining room and sitting room open up from the entrance hall. Mena has played on the interesting architecture and decorated the house in a most appealing, flowery, feminine way, adding attractive Victorian furniture and all the special touches that make you feel you are staying with friends. Robyn’s delectable food has earned him a two AA Rosettes. An enjoyable day trip is to explore the villages of the Black Isle of which the historic port of Cromarty is a highlight. You can enjoy magnificent Highland scenery on the train journey from nearby Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh. The local distillery at Glen Ord offers tours and samples. Traditional Scottish tweeds and woolens are available in nearby Beauly.
