Karen's Review Of This Property:
Just a stone’s throw from Glamis and its famous castle (birthplace of the late Queen Mum) situated on the site of a medieval fortress, this Edwardian country house hotel is surrounded by a moat providing a tree-shaded country walk. Many things about the hotel are special, most importantly the warm, informal hospitality of David and Verity and their staff. Comfy sofas and a crackling log fire lend to the drawing room a warm coziness. Guests usually congregate in the convivial bar. The chef’s food philosophy centers on using only the highest quality local ingredients—a great deal of the fruit and veggies come from the garden and orchard. The conservatory is an especially attractive place to dine on a summer evening and is kept toasty in winter with underfloor heating. The warm color scheme downstairs extends to the bedrooms, all neat as a pin with pretty flower arrangements, good bed linens, and tomorrow’s weather forecast. Know that you deserve the best and opt for room 1 or room 5 (a four poster) both extra-large rooms with large bathrooms with separate shower and bath. Tamworth pigs, a rare porcine breed, root around in the orchard and welcome visits. Twenty golf courses are within striking distance. Glamis Castle, Scone Palace (coronation site of Scotland’s kings), and the J.M. Barrie museum in Kirriemuir are popular venues.
