Karen's Review Of This Property:
Nestling in the foothills of the mighty Ben Nevis, Inverlochy Castle sits amongst some of Scotland’s finest scenery. Its magnificence does not appear to have altered since Queen Victoria visited in 1873. In her diaries she wrote, “I never saw a lovelier nor more romantic spot.” Surrounded by landscaped gardens overlooking its own private loch, the turreted and gabled house was built to resemble a castle. Central heating and modern plumbing appear to be the only 21st-century additions. The two-storied Grand Hall with its frescoed ceiling sets the tone of this memorable hotel and the furnishings and decor throughout are luxurious. Dinner is an experience to savor in either of the dining rooms, each decorated with elaborate period furniture given as gifts by the King of Norway. The staff outnumbers the guests and attention to detail ensures that things are done properly. Inverlochy Castle is a very grand, very expensive, and most outstanding hotel. The small number of rooms and the hotel’s popularity mean that early reservations are necessary. There are various outdoor activities available to guests including fly fishing for brown trout in the private loch, clay-pigeon shooting, guided walks, and grouse stalking. You can take the Road to the Isles, a lovely drive that brings you to Mallaig where you can board ferries to the isles of Skye, Rhum, Eigg, Canna, and Muck.
