Karen's Review Of This Property:
With lush lawns stretching beside the confluence of the Dee and Feugh rivers, Banchory Lodge has a magnificent setting. There has been a hostelry here since the 16th century when the mail coach halted at Banchory to change horses. Over the years it has evolved into a pleasing, rather rambling, old-fashioned country house hotel. The first thing I always notice at Banchory House is the abundance of flower arrangements, from little posies on coffee tables to grand floral arrangements alongside splendid oil paintings. Log fires and oversized chairs set the relaxed, comfortable atmosphere of the place. Dinner is served in the grand dining room, which has a comfortable formality, with guests both in jacket and tie and casual attire. Country-house fare is the order of the day here, but if you wish to dine more simply, just choose one or two courses from the menu. Bedrooms are delightfully old-fashioned: room 9 with its semi-circular window is as always a particular favorite—though I would settle for any of the rooms that face the tumbling river. Fishing, golfing, and walking are popular pastimes. Nearby Crathes Castle (an L-shaped tower house) has an early-18th-century formal garden, while Drum Castle has a magnificent rose garden. Farther away lie Fyvie and Craigievar.
