Karen's Review Of This Property:
If your vacation plans take you anywhere near southwest Ayrshire (maybe while traveling between Scotland and the Lake District or Ireland), treat yourself to a stay—house party-style—at luxurious Glenapp Castle, an elegant 1870 mansion in 30 acres of delightful grounds overlooking the Irish Sea. Fay and Graham Cowan devoted six years to bringing the castle from dilapidation to perfection—walls glow with attractive tiger-stripe oak paneling, tall windows are beautifully dressed with rich fabrics, chandeliers sparkle, lovely antiques and original oil paintings are expertly placed, and comfortable, plump-cushioned sofas and chairs are grouped invitingly around open fires. There are two dining rooms, both overlooking the sea: one, in a golden-yellow decor, for breakfast and lunch, and the other, dramatically decorated in burgundy and with spectacular sunset views, for outstanding six-course dinners. Guestrooms offer every amenity and the two master bedrooms are particularly lavish and spacious. Nine rooms have gas fires, lit for guests’ arrival, and many bathrooms have beautifully renovated original marble walls and floors. This is the Cowan family’s home and they bring a very warm and personal touch to this absolutely irresistible hotel. Advance reservations are a must.
