Karen's Review Of This Property:
Windermere is one of the most popular and busy Lake District towns. You’ll find Holbeck Ghyll peacefully set high above Lake Windermere in a rhododendron-filled garden overlooking the water and the peaks of the Langdale fells—idyllic scenery that has made the Lake District such a magnet for visitors. Mellow, golden-oak paneling in the entrance hall extends up the staircase of Holbeck Ghyll and heavy beams create a nook large enough for chairs round a cozy log fire. In summer, guests prefer the sitting rooms whose window seats offer a magnificent view of the lake and the distant mountains. The restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star for nine consecutive years. There are lots of choices for each course and superlatives are the order of the day. Accommodations offer lots of opportunities for spectacular views: Renée Zellweger reputedly considers the luxurious Miss Potter suite (a cottage) her favorite; I loved the seclusion of the historic converted barn (four luxurious bedrooms and the opportunity to have the chef cook dinner for you) and the spaciousness of room 6—the long ago billiard room. Pamper yourself with a beauty treatment in the health spa, relax in the sauna and steam room, or work out in the gym. Nearby are Dove Cottage, Rydal Mount, and the villages of Hawkshead and Grasmere.
