Gilpin Lodge Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since John C spent boyhood holidays with his grandma at Gilpin Lodge. What started out as a traditional country house hotel has been transformed into a sophisticated destination, while still keeping all the personal touches of family and long-term staff’s hands-on involvement. Enjoy the conviviality of the bar, afternoon tea in the lounge, quiet repose in one of the sitting nooks and dine in one of four lovely rooms that make up the award winning restaurant. Daily tastings are offered, in the cellars, of the recommended wine parings for that evening’s dinner menu. While we love all of the bedrooms, we are particularly impressed by the garden suites with their understated contemporary decor, spacious living room and doors opening to a deck with a private hot tub overlooking the garden and beyond to the peaceful countryside. Stroll through the gardens to visit the llamas or enjoy a massage or treatment in the privacy of your room. A stone’s throw away is Windermere golf course. A ferry takes you across the lake to Near Sawrey and Beatrix Potter’s home. Wordsworth fans head for Rydal House and Dove Cottage, while walkers head for the hills. Gilpin Lodge can arrange for a private car and driver to escort you on your sightseeing.

We escaped up to the Lake District for 3 days after business in London. We stayed at the Gilpin Lodge and frankly, it is now up there with one of our top 2 or 3 places in the world. The staff was delightful without being fussy or pretentious and the food was out of this world! We did two days of hiking the fells and our muscles aren’t letting us forget the great exercise! What a delightful get-away.
