A Karen Brown Recommended Hotel / Inn

Karen's Review Of This Property:
This cozy little hotel, tucked in a garden off the Ambleside to Grasmere road, has (like so many places hereabouts) associations with the poet William Wordsworth. He lived just down the road at Rydal Mount and bought White Moss House for his son whos descendents kept it until the 1930s. Now, it is owned by Susan and Peter Dixon who lavish their guests with a level of personal attention usually found at much fancier establishments. Peter’s culinary talents shine in the delicious breakfasts he prepares that are served in the cottage-style dining room. The small, adjacent lounge guarantees conviviality among the guests. Bedrooms are on the smaller size, each accompanied by a snug, bath and shower room. Room 1, an attractive twin-bedded room with a ribbon-and-bow-motif running through the bedspread fabric, has a tiny shower room and small patio. Brockstone Cottage, a two-bedroom self-catering cottage, is nearby. For dinner guests are directed to nearby restaurants. You can fish on nearby Rydal Water and have free use of a local leisure club. Lakeland scenery is glorious whether you come in spring when the famous daffodils bloom, in summer with the crowds, or in autumn when the bracken and leaves turn golden-brown. You can stroll to Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage—Wordsworth’s famous homes.
